Pep Guardiola's side have received a financial boost of €5.17 million ($5.94m/£4.43m) from UEFA for releasing players for players for Nations League games, European Championship qualifiers between 2022-24 and Euro 2024 duty. La Liga giants Real Madrid were next on the list with €4.79m ($5.49m/£4.1m), while Serie A side Inter picked up a cool €4.65m ($7.5m/£5.65m).

The payment is part of the UEFA's Club Benefits Programme which is aimed at encouraging clubs to release players to their national teams. Clubs receive an equal share for each player allowed to feature in Nations League and Euro qualifiers and also earn a fixed amount per player per day during the final tournament. The programme means clubs across the football pyramid can benefit, with Yorkshire Amateur – a team operating in England's 10th-tier – receiving €7,300 ($8,380/£6,260).

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said: "It is fantastic to see clubs of all sizes and levels, across the entire football pyramid, receiving financial rewards for their vital role in developing players who contribute to the success of our national team competitions – including the highly successful UEFA Euro 2024 final tournament."

The next round of international fixtures will take place after the end of the 2024-25 season. A fresh round of World Cup qualifiers are scheduled for early June, while the final stages of the Nations League will also take place. Germany will face Portugal in the first semi-final, with Spain taking on France in the other side of the draw.
